1ST STEP IN SETTING UP A BUSINESS GLOSSARY //
This is the first step in setting up a business glossary, and probably also the most overlooked. It might be a nobrainer when you hear what it is, but trust me, a lot of data governance leads skip it.

Agreed, George This falls into the larger and never-ending horizontal of stakeholder management (identification, agreeing to roles and responsibilities, controls, engagement models, and expected value) throughout the life of the initiative. Offering up a small-scape, tightly scoped proof of value with limited resources should only exist without decent funding to demonstrate illustrative but real value when sponsorship is initially needed. Later on, the same applies to identifying the actual contributors (from operations through executive levels) to craft, refine, and extend the definitions and other business and technical metadata that is essential for success.

Good points, George. Thanks for the video. Completely agree. Too many times, we jump into doing something without the backing and proof we need.

Getting buy-in can be a challenge on its own, though. Business people want proof that the money they spend will reduce risk, increase competitiveness, increase profits, reduce cost etc. Pinning this down to concrete examples is tough. How have you gone about quantifying the value that a BG will add to business without the usual sales pitch of "this is what everyone else is doing, so we should do it too"?
