You don’t have to speak patois to do dancehall nor root reggae. The rhythm is the most important thing . UB40 speak and sing in English only some few tracks you will hear some patois lines from Terence Wilson(Astro). Red red wine is an example, as well as another track titled reggae music. Just a few of their tracks.

😂😂😂i live in the UK for 26 years my best friend is Jamaican and I cannot say a word in patois except wha gwan 😂 l love my Jamaicans but some of us have heavy mother tongue. Shatta can speak patois but you have to use your most comfortable tongue.
.whoever advised Shatta to speak English is a genius...no matter how good your English is when you meet someone from the south london please don't try faking the accent....it will not sound good...shatta speaks patois

In the caribbeans, apart from Jamaicans who are the originaters of dancehall and speaks patoa which is thier dialect. Countries like Martinique, Guadeloupe, Guyane etc etc do pure dancehall in thier native dialect which is CRÉOLE and sometimes in french which is thier national language. Am in France and i know what am talking about. They do more dancehall than Africans. Moreover, Jamaica is an english speaking country. Why should you go there and force yourself to speak patoa. Alpha Blondy and Lucky Dude never speak in patoa. Ras Kimono was sounding patoa but it wasn't patoa.
