Cumbia Masterclass: Mario Galeano Toro (Colombia)

[PUBLIC EVENT 2014] In March 2014, bandleader and musicologist Mario Galeano Toro came to Canberra to perform with Frente Cumbiero (Colombia). During this time he gave a lecture on the variegated history of Colombian music, from its Afro-Caribbean origins to its modern electronic manifestations, and an overview of his artist oeuvre which includes the landmark CD Ondatrópica — an exploration of the traditional tropical sounds of Colombia married with the cool sounds of London, and Los Pirañas, a psychedelic improvisational cumbia group,

Presented by Pura Vida Roadshow and the Embassy of Colombia in Australia with the generous support of ANCLAS, NEW ACTON NISHI and FAMA SERVICES, this activity is part of an effort by local producers to deliver innovative experiences to Canberran's as a practical way to convey the city's new paradigm of being bold and ready.
