Get More Done In Less Time By Hacking Parkinson's Law

Do you know what the number one reason I hear people give for not being able to start or grow their business?

Lack of time!

All of us are so busy trying to work our 9-5, raise a family, or go to school that we feel we don’t have enough time to put any of our ideas into place and start seeing traction.

Now while this might be true, trying to create more time in our schedules isn’t the only solution to the problem.

Taking less time is another . And that is totally in your control.

In fact, by hacking something called Parkinson’s Law we can actually get MORE done on our businesses in LESS time.

I've learned that it's very important to balance "work and play". Now, this doesn't necessarily mean 8 hours of work and 8 hours of play, but what it does mean is that the down time can be just as important as the time to work.

I've noticed that if I overburden myself with work, I end up putting it off and getting nothing done. If I spend too much time "playing" then I start getting an itch to work and be productive.

By balancing these things, it allows me to enjoy my down time because I feel satisfied with the work I've accomplished, and it motivates me to work because I feel satisfied that I've had some time to have fun.

Thanks for another great video, Graham!

This is a mindset changer, I didn't know about this before. And it makes complete sense. My worst nightmare is paying too much attention to little details, which suck the time I have everyday to work on my project, instead of focusing of delivering more. And now I get it right. Great video Graham thanks for providing such an easy to understand explanation of this.

Have really enjoyed your channel mate, surprised to see you only have 1400 subs. I'm sure you'll boom at some point. It's really good stuff.

Thanks for this. I really needed this lesson. I take too long to do things. Much appreciation

It always takes me forever to get ready to get to a meeting or an appointment... I always tell myself I'll have plenty of time to get ready and when the time comes, it always took me longer and I ended up being a little late, which of course is never a good look. I changed this by hacking parkinson's law. I now give myself 15 minutes to get ready. Shower, shave, select and iron clothing, etc. Although it does usually end up taking me longer than 15 minutes to get ready, it's vastly shorter than the hour it used to take and I am on time. I also have a rule of thumb to be at my appointment or meeting half hour before the actual start time. I also make it a priority to get ready right after I finish my morning work out. You may feel discouraged at times because it's not working right away, however the incremental changes add up overtime and before you know it, you have overcome the habit of being late.

My goal to apply this is to chunk my time to give strict short deadlines to tasks and get them done!

That circle! I always have been thinking about 80/20, but couldn't found my way to get there.
That circle makes me realize... you need to FORCE it, and limiting time is a good way - maybe the best - to make it.

Great video, thanks!!

Super helpful video!

I need to work on (1) prioritizing the most important task(s) first and (2) only checking e-mail (and LinkedIn) ONCE per day and at the end of my day instead of the beginning...

For anyone who can answer this please do-I absolutely agree with this concept, BUT-it works only when you already have leverage, as in with the college project example-he HAD to get it done or bad things would have followed. So how do you get that sort of leverage on yourself for things that aren't a must, but would still be great wins-for example a trivial case-you're not strong, but neither are you fat-so how do you get yourself to work out or study or work even harder or whatever it is?

I make sure to have 1 hour every morning before my 9-6. As my months tick by (e.g. holy crap it's already May?!?) I at least have work to show it.
