Lightnin' Strikes: Lou Christie (1966 radio hit)

Показать описание
This video was shot only 8 years after "Lightnin' Strikes" was a huge hit in the US in early 1966. This performance (May 17, 1974) was on the nostalgic music themed TV show "Midnight Special." In this custom video, the original hit single has been added and lip synced to the performance. The backup singers on Christie's original hit version of "Lightnin' Strikes" were Bernadette Carroll, Denise Ferri and Peggy Davison (not the same ladies in this video). Historical information from IMDB and Wikipedia below:
"Lou Christie was a popular singer from the Pittsburgh area, a former choirboy with no formal musical training, who hit it big in the early 1960s as a teenager with two songs featuring his very high-pitched falsetto voice, "The Gypsy Cried" and "Two Faces Have I." Several years later he hit it big again, with two more hits using his falsetto voice (though not as prominently as on his previous hits), "Lightning Strikes Again" and "Rhapsody in the Rain." The latter had the distinction of being one of the first songs to be banned from many radio stations because of its perceived "suggestive" lyrics. " (IMDB)
"Lightnin' Strikes" is a song written by Lou Christie and Twyla Herbert, and recorded by Christie on the MGM label. It was a hit in 1966, making it first to No. 1 in Canada in January 1966 on the RPM Top Singles chart,[1] then to No. 1 in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100 in February, No. 3 on the New Zealand Listener chart in May,[2] and No. 11 on the UK Record Retailer chart. RIAA certification on March 3, 1966, garnering gold status for selling over one million copies." (Wiki)
