all did NOT look good. straps were way to loose and chest buckle not positioned properly. even without a coat the dummy would have been ejected from the seat.

No self respecting parent would ever buckle their child that way. Straps weren’t even an attempt at tight and the buckle was no where near the armpit line as recommended. A jacket had no effect on the crash, other than the outcome they were looking for.

This has a point. I live in a place where it can be -30c or even colder at winter, and children (adults too) must wear thick clothing. Installing all those 500 belts on tightly and safely on a few months old baby is a challenge with all that clothing. Specially the shoulder belts come loose easily.
Video is rubbish, but with heavy clothing the belts/seats does not work as they are desingned to.
Anyone living around the polar circle knows what i mean. Others can just shut up.

Maybe retry the test with the belts correctly positioned and tight. IMO they shouldn't be wiggling like that at all! Plus the chest strap is over the belly...I get the puffiness can take away some of the snugness but c''mom...

I never put my kids in the car seat with a jacket on. Those straps were so loose though. You can see the dummy shaking them from side to side 🙄. No wonder the test dummy flies out. If someone didn't believe coats were an issue and watched this I don't think it would be very convincing.

They were pretty dramatic with the straps being loose. But a coat on while buckled in DOES create space, and space IS a danger in case of an accident.

And did anyone even notice that they NEVER pulled the seatbelt tight enough??? You do know you can tighten it even with a childs jacket on. its called TIGHTEN then more. False information is not accurate information.

A few things I noticed.

1. The when the man strapped his son in (coat on) it did not look like the straps were tight at all. It looked like you could put a fist between the strap and the child's body. Maybe my eyes were just off though.

2. Ditto comment #1 with the fake child.

3. A child the size of the fake child should have been facing the opposite direction.

4. If the idea is that a present coat = less safety in a crash than an absent coat - a simulation with an absent coat should have been run to drive home the point. I suspect this wasn't ran because the results would have been similar? I could be wrong.

That car seat isn't even secured in the back of it. I see alot of mistakes. If this happens it's because parents aren't paying a attention to their children

Total rubbish, doing a test with the straps this loose is invalid. Its an unscientific setup.

This is bull you can clearly see the straps aren't tight enough. pulling on them like that only shows that thery are still attached to the seat. Is this something we need to be aware of ? Yes but is it the coats fault? NO. be sure to tighten the straps up which these were clearly not. I've seen other tests where they take the coat off then put the kid in and run the safety test. that's even more ridiculous
