Fact-checking Title 42

For over two years, the U.S. asylum system has been shut down due to the Title 42 policy. In the early days of the Trump administration, Stephen Miller strategized how to weaponize Title 42, an section of an obscure public heath law, as a way to stop immigrants from coming to the U.S. Miller took advantage of the the Covid-19 pandemic to justify shutting down asylum under the guise of public health. Public health experts and center for Disease Control officials have repeatedly acknowledged that there is no public health justification for exclusively keeping asylum seekers from entering the United States. Ending Title 42 is not about politics, it's about people's lives and upholding the fundamental, legal right to seek asylum.
