Flashpoint XPLOR 300 PRO | Hands On with Gavin Hoey

Photographer Gavin Hoey tests out the Flashpoint XPLOR 300 pro flash on a location portrait shoot. This small, powerful flash is the perfect companion for both studio work and location photographers. So when Gavin got the opportunity to do a location shoot in a yurt, the Flashpoint XPLOR 300 Pro came along for the ride.

At 300ws this flash has plenty of power but so does it’s built-in bi-color modeling light. During the session, Gavin uses the XPLOR 300 as both continuous light source and as a flash. He also teams the flash up with a Bowens S fit softbox via an optional Glow S2 round bracket.

I bought an equivalent to the Evolv200 recently and I love it. I would bet this is a fun light as well. Small and powerful. Us old photographers get tired of lugging around heavy equipment.

just purchased 300pro from adorama on black friday. intend to use for the first time for upcoming corporate head shot. will use an 41" umbrella and diffuser and then switch to the S85W softbox. i like to offer several looks to a client. thank you for the effort and the sharing. i am an appreciative subscriber. thumbs up.

Hey Gavin, just got my hands on one of these. Shot on Saturday for 9 hours, 9 models, on about 1/4 power and it lasted all day with juice left in the tank. Around 1200 shots

Your model seems VERY professional. In just the short amount of time we saw her on camera she seemed to be on auto pilot with great poses and pauses.

Got a couple of these light this summer (due to the recommendation from Tommy Reynolds) and I love them. Not only are they great inside and out (I still use mt AD600 on a beach or the like) but even for such a compact build it feels like it has a very study construction to it. Traded in the two AD200s I had to get my first one and it was so worth it.
