Space Debris Sensor

Показать описание
Orbital debris poses a risk to all spacecraft in Earth orbit, so the International Space Station is getting a new debris impact sensor to provide information on the micrometeoroid orbital debris environment in low Earth orbit. The Space Debris Sensor, launching on the next SpaceX Dragon cargo vehicle, will monitor impacts caused by small-scale orbital debris for a period of two to three years. That data will improve station safety by generating a more accurate estimate of the amount of small-scale debris that cannot be tracked from the ground and helping define better spacecraft shielding requirements.

top priority mission should be a pick up after yourselves ?

You should attach some really long out-riggers pointing Port and Starboard with a Magnetic-field aiming down towards the Earth, which in turn will help nudge particles towards a de-orbit, ... then have another field aiming up that can help Tug the particles into a de-orbit. This wouldn't be a fast process, it'll be a slow process and given the orbital path of the ISS, In-time, it'll help clear a quadrant of space. We could also add these out-riggers to future satellites also that also have there own de-orbital system.

You should add a note that the footage is illustrative computer generated imagery to be accurate and transparent @NASA Johnson.

I was gonna make a joke about "when it gets hit you know there's debris there" but then that's what it actually was

Can we please find a way to collect the debris? We've now filled our planet with waste and we're moving our horrible trashy habit into space. A space clean-up would perhaps help inspire more Earth clean-ups.

I think the next generations of space stations should be run by robots, it would be safer, also robots don't have humans needs, and can work 24/24h
Maybe in 15-20 years robots will be able to do the same tasks as astronauts do.
We already use robots with great success to explore others planets.
