A perfect scene in a perfect film. The music from this scene is titled 'American Beauty' on the soundtrack, which is fitting since it is the centre point of the film, and apparently a similar plastic bag had inspired the writers.

When he said, "Sometimes there is so much beauty in this world and I feel like I can't take it and my heart is going to cave in". That line slays me and I can't hold back my tears. As an armature photographer when walking out and nature and finding just the smallest flower peaking through a thicket around it. I see the most incredible beauty in that small creation, and it never ceases to amaze me of how wonderful it makes me feel to find it.

It's the music. Everything else has to be great too, but Thomas Newman writing "Any Other Name" and putting that music in this scene is perfection. It's what elevates the emotion.

Last night when I went to bed, all of a sudden this thought/realization just came to me out of nowhere. I remembered this scene from the movie, so here I am watching it again. :)

I think we've all felt this moment in our life. This second while walking outside where you stop & look around you, something called for you. Whether its looking at the water waves calmly moving, the colored sky that shine differently than all the past 5 years, 2 people far in the distance acting this beautiful scene you had in your heart or simply this simple plastic bag in the wind playing with leaves in the school playground when you were a kid & watching him float away reminding you freedom is something that got stolen from you even at a young age, we all need to remember that there's something more than just what this world of ours has become.

I think this is a scene that only the sensitive souls amongst us in our society can fully appreciate. There are some people who just feel things deeply about their surroundings and there are others who don’t have the same energy. To fully appreciate this film, you’d probably fall into the former.

Something about this scene is special... it feels like it transcends every other movie out there. Its such a deeply rooted idea they touch on here. Its almost like they talk about the calling of one's inner Soul. What lies behind the material world. What lies with in ourselfs. Great movie

If you have ever had a personal experience like this one, an intimate experience, with what Ricky understands as "life force, " the scene is that much more It's the entire theme of this scene, it's what gives it such deep meaning, yet many people who "love" and "feel" this scene are completely uninfluenced by it. They blindly miss the entire intended the whole point here is that there exists something outside of our supposed reality that when it interacts with us on a personal level, it literally crashes into the world we think we know, breaking barriers, intentionally doing this to specifically interact with us, just so we know that it's there, and that it is Ricky feels this so deeply because of the way it feels for this life force to reach out to you specifically, just to comfort If you've ever experienced it you know exactly what I'm saying, and you know that is ultimately why this is one of the greatest scenes in movie history.... truly a masterpiece, the entire movie.

Almost embarrassing to feel so closely attached to a character in a movie who knew something secret about me. A magic that I refuse to never stop learning.

My family and I had a moment when the movie first came out, where we were on a road trip and we saw a plastic bag floating along the road. All 4 of us in the car at the same time said “There’s so much beauty in the world”. It was hilariously magical. We still giggle about it to this day ❤
