So many of you are confused between 0.5 and 0.5 with a bar upon 5.
Let me clear up a bit,
So basically 0.5 is a terminating decimal (will end at some point) but 0.5 with a bar upon 5 is a non terminating (never ends) recurring (keeps repeating itself) decimal.
The rational number form of 0.5 is 1/2 but the rational form of 0.5 with a bar upon 5 is 5/9 because if you devide it then the 40 will always come and the 5 will repeat itself forever.
So the sir is not wrong.
