In this biography video, we cover the life of Jan Hus (also known as John Huss or Jan Huss), a Bohemian priest wwo rebelled against the Catholic Church in the 1400s. After originally becoming a priest to avoid working in the fields, Hus became capitvated by the Lollards. Lollardy had been founded by John Wycliffe and taught that the Bible ought to have authority over the Pope. Hus continued to teach this and so the Catholics called the Council of Constance to deal with the Hussite issue. In this video, Mr. Mitchell will also cover whether Jan Hus really did predict Martin Luther and the Reformation coming 100 years later.

In tis series, Insiders and Exiles Mr. Mitchell will cover some of the most influential voices within Christianity yet unlike names like Martin Luther, cannot be categorised into a particular movement in Church History. The series continues with a biography of Jan Hus who went on to become one of the most well known defenders of the Christian faith.

The people of Bohemia went to war with the rest of the christian world when Jan Hus was burned at the stake and they fought off 5 crusades, this is how much he ment to them. And the Hussites were not completely wiped out, we still exist today, not an unbroken line perhaps, but there are people today who follow the teachings of Hus

Great video! Loving the presentation and humor (I would have put Darth Vader's I lied regarding Sigismund, but hey).
I wouldn't say the Hussites were completely wiped out, since their remnants would become the present-day Moravian church, though maybe the present form has enough significant differences to be considered separate.

PLEASE tell me the dialect of the narrator. YouTube's closed captions were necessary and it still transcribed MATA for the word martyr. Otherwise, I did learn some interesting history here.

Such a cool short Video, but the most impresive and genious for me as a german was, that Citysens, normal foks and nobles and academics create a strong bond to bring her one way of free belive in reality. And they did such a strong composit of abilitys, that now army on erth could hit them dowen. The create an foundation and of freedom in her home region, like a concret bock of reality, no one can ignore. By that they became the role model for more modern societys and a rolemodel for Reformation and evangelisem. They were so much more than thinkers, or groups, they created a nation of free humans, with her one rules. After a time kings and churches create inner tention and conflicts inside the Hussiten, by unfair actions. So the free nation was splitted and lost most of her freedom. But this ability to change the world, because iner belive and hope is more importand, than supression of the world wide army of rom, is an ability, only slawic ethnic has in that special way that all parts of society stick to gather as one, with out superiority of the most powerful, like in the usa. But never the less, that slavic power helps to lay the foundation of the US in her inner understanding of freedom.

But the slavic fokes wants more than inner fredom, so they have whishes to have a real working democracy. for that they have this fear by the US democracy, because this people are fine with reduced democracy and reduced rights to became information or control ofter the government. Thats realy a no go for slavic culture, my be for that, they stand in Russia against the us-strategie, to enter slawic culture by controle the ukrain, to spred out a reduced version of democracy, to use voters and parlamentes to create power concentration and capital concentration for more power concentration, to establishe a world of powerconcentration, as a version of freedom. thats okay for countrys like the us, with not e ethical strong developed sence for freedom. but i am sure the slawic nation, never gave up for a version of extrem rediced democratic rights, like the USA and the Nato states hold strongly as the only way to be. By that we have to wait, that a second jan huss will came along in slawic culture, to gave the US again such a universal push to became fans of freedom.

Reformers as Jedi - the content I didn't know I needed!
Someone needs to do a reformation series in the likeness of a Jedi rebellion against the empire. :D

Nice video, though Kingdom Come Deliverance would have been a better choice of background than Assassin's Creed ;)

Great video! For more Insiders and Exiles, I’d love to hear about some of the reformers like MLK Jr or Desmond Tutu who challenged racism both inside and outside the church. Liberation Theology and Black Liberation Theology would also make for interesting subjects. Whatever you do, I’m looking forward to more of your work!

It was a bit more complicated. Sigismund could protect Hus there amd back, but while on Church ground, the emperor had no official power. Did he betray Hus?... Grey area.

Would be good to have included more about his legacy - the Hussites themselves. They were wiped out, but it reemerges as the Moravian church.

Jan Hus did not predict Martin Luther. However, Martin Luther built his life after Jan Hus to make it look like he was the one Hus was referring to. Both Hus and Luther were Catholic priests and both university professors and both fought indulgences and the middle man between God and man. Luther mimicked Hus, that's all it was. Joan of Arc is the true Reformationist. She was no Catholic Priest, but she was concucbine-Melchizedek, High Priestess of heaven and earth. She was no University Professor, but she confounded and frustrated the 100 Doctors of divinity and law from the University of Paris who were her judges at her Trial of Condemnation. The amassed intelligentsia of Joan's time and place in history. The so-called "Lights of Christianity". They couldn't hold a candle to the wisdom of Joan of Arc, the illiterate/unschooled teenage farm girl "as terrible as an army with banners." -- Song of Solomon 6:10 KJV.
