The Nylons - Kiss Him Goodbye (Vinyl, 1987)

Taken from the album "Happy Together" (Canadian presssing, Attic LAT1233)

Believe it or not, this song only contains vocals and percussion! A well-known acappella cover of Steam's "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye" by Canada's pre-eminent masters of the genre: The Nylons, formed in 1978 in Toronto! Despite an ever-changing lineup over the years, The Nylons have managed to retain their classic sound and continue to perform today! And yes, the Direct Metal Mastering gives the vinyl a very edgy sound, especially for an end-of-side track. :) Please let me know if you want to hear anything else from this album!

Vinyl isn’t light on the pocket. If you enjoy these needledrops and need funds for wax and/or vinyl hardware, I can HELP you make your pocket-book ready at ANY time for purchases.

I’ve locked in some deals to build your vinyl savings account and get you the best value. Trying to decide which of 3 LP’s to buy from your Discogs wantlist? Worry no more – build a vinyl war chest, and you’ll have savings to buy all 3 at once with confidence.

When you buy through these links, I get a small kick-back, so you get higher-quality videos & reviews.

CURRENT GOAL: I’ve been away from my equipment & collection for 3 years. I’m anxious to put together some wax & a hi-fi to keep giving you the good stuff.

Together, we can continue to make our vinyl the best they can sound for the money. Want better sound? Less sibilance? Clearer tone? Check these out:

**PRECIOUS METALS**
Vinyl is all about physics. If you got tarnished wire, your music can’t travel from stylus to speakers without signal loss! I am fascinated with the properties of different metals, precious metals in particular. Gold & silver are beautiful, they store value, and they have wide industrial uses.

I put some holdings in gold and silver to protect my money. Why? Historical stability. They’re best for savings. This monthly savings plan makes it easy to add time-tested money to your Vinyl War Chest.

One of the most unusual and awesome freak hits of the eighties. This made it to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 - actually higher than it charted in their home country of Canada, where it peaked at 21.

The Nylons...proof of what a magnificent instrument the human voice can be :)

I listened to these guys and saw these guys perform at a young age. I have loved them ever since.

This vocal group is a true testament to how times have drastically changed over the past three decades. Did these four men ooze sex appeal physically? No. But their talent was out of this world!!! If The Nylons would've tried to make music together in the 21st Century, people would've looked at the picture on the album cover and immediately blown them off. Absolutely pathetic how vanity has taken over every aspect of life, largely thanks to "American Idol" and "The Voice". That being said, a truly great performance by these four EXTREMELY talented men!

I've thought 1987 was when pop music has reached its zenith.

If this version had been on now, with the big thing about acappella groups, such as Pentatonix and Home Free, I think The Nylons would have done well. This still remains one of my favorite "lost hits" of all time.

Paul Cooper (the guy in the center of the album cover) passed away at his home in Battle Creek, MI yesterday. He was presently the director of the Battle Creek Cereal City Chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society. RIP, Paul/

Reminds me of the summer of 1987 when this was on heavy rotation on the local radio stations.  I still have the 45 rpm record of this song.

There are lots of people singing today who could have taken lessons from this group. 4 guys who knew how to sing and could do it better than anyone. Definitely the gold standard for vocal groups

I saw these gentlemen in concert four times in Des Moines Iowa in the 80's/90's. Best a capella I've ever heard live

This is the best version of this song I have heard. Loved it back in the day and love it still. Would love for you to put Touch of Your Hand from this album up. Thanks

Oh, I believe it. I came here because I heard the song on a rebroadcast of an old AT Top 40 broadcast. And I liked the acappella so much I wanted to look it up here, the moment I had time.

I was visiting Canada for their 125th birthday (July 1, 1992), and hearing them sing this live at Canada's Wonderland was a great moment!
