KTM makes the best and lightest motocross bikes. Complaining about minor stuff... The SMCR is one of the coolest bikes ever.

You had an MT-09. You have an MT-07. Getting a new MT-09 makes no sense. Get something different than what you had and have.

MT-10 owner here. You need to seriously consider it. Japanese reliability and awesome performance

after years of as a ducati rider, when the 890 smt was released in the states I had to give ktm a shot. 5k on that bike, suddenly heard engine knocking. To the dealer and they found a valve spring broke. Waiting on ktm to support warranty claim. While waiting, thought what the hell i still need to try ktm and wanted a small bike so picked up a 2024 duke 390 with 3k miles. Literally pulled out of dealer lot and low oil pressure warning came on. Right back to dealer. Dealer checked and pretty sure is a faulty sensor but won't know until part comes in. Two 2024 in the shop. Can't believe it. Never did one of the ducati's i had fail

You’re right. It’s a terrible unreliable machine that requires the owners to read the manual to understand the electronics.

I’ll take it off your hands for $100.

All those complaining about the electronics, every other bike you are going to buy is having those. KTM can't do anyting about it, is just manditory by law. On the KTM you can undo them all, just read the manual one time.

And otherwise just pull the fuse out. Done with your complaining about nonsense.

Now would be a perfect time to try the Ducati 698 Hypermotard, you could compare it to the KTM 690, it would make great content for the channel!

DRZ400SM is the most reliable supermoto. Regret selling mine.

Modern bikes are getting kind of lame. Most are getting too expensive, too refined, and have unnecessary electronics, and rider aids. The Bikes 15 years ago were soulful. Emission regulations, which are BS has a lot to do with it.

I had to 2008 fireblade and that motor was awesome for the street. And it wasn’t over geared like the new liter bikes are today.

Before that I had a Honda superhawk, which was another awesome street bike Honda made with a V twin 1000 cc engine. It was very nimble and had a ton of torque. It was so easy to wheelie.

I own a Aprilia Tuono factory now. I wish it was 50 pounds lighter and had a 750-800 cc engine but still kept a ton of torque. They need to redesign it to handle more nimbly and wheelie easier too. It looks and sounds great, they just need to redesign it to be more playful on the street.

I think the new 660 Aprilia’s would have been great if they were a 750, and had more torque and a bit more horsepower. They designed the 660 Tuono to handle a lot better. Would like to test ride one because I think it would still be more fun on the street than my V4.

9k miles no issues 🤷‍♂️ also didn’t do all those mods, bike rides fine with an exhaust. Added a couple washers on the inside of the traction control sensor so I don’t have to mess with it anymore thanks to some advice from a buddy that owns one also. I have a Husqvarna though but same thing. And a 17 front wheel isn’t an off-road wheel. Light Gravel and grass is fine but you aren’t hitting sand and having a good time. It’s a street bike.

Honda will never release a motorcycle like that concept hornet 1000. That picture has been floating around the internet for years. Shit we can’t even get the hornet 750

Responding to a few things:
* Ktm final gear ratio is garbage. They set it for mpg not giggles per mile. I'm not sure why no one changes that. That should be the first thing that should be changed no one seems to know about. Dropping a tooth in the drive sprocket is pretty much a need to do on all street models. I ended up going down 2 teeth on my 890
* ya, oem replacements are slow. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because they are stretched very thin in cash right now.
* yup its heavy, but you're not servicing it every weekend. It's a tradeoff.
* you're looking to trade the bike in for a mt09, it seems like you went into the smcr wanting to hate the bike or misunderstanding what it is. It was never designed to replace bikes like the yz450. It was for people who wanted the feel of a sumo but the reliability of a naked. Other than the frame, it doesn't have any relation to dualsport bikes. The wheels & suspension are 100% street focused. Calling the 690 enduro r a dualsport is even a stretch. It's a ultralite adv bike.

"I'm keeping this as long as I'm riding"

*WR250R has entered the chat* "Where have I heard this before?"

I just got back into bikes and was considering my first ktm 450/500. Glad I went with my gut and went back to a Yamaha. Finishing my supermoto build on a new yz450fx because of you. Can’t beat the reliability. Had a good experience with the wr450 back in the day.

Don’t get the mt09
You got a 07

Change your sprockets -1 +2 and the 07 will feel like a 09 just won’t have a lot of power over 100mph which you don’t need anyway

My 4 month old SMC R has been at the dealer for almost 5 weeks with oil pump issues. I’ll be trading it in when I get it back.

The 690 isn't an MX bike... not even based on one. Your YZ is a motocross bike... OF COURSE it is light and aggressive. Maybe you should've gotten a 500 EXC.

I don't think getting parts from KTM is any worse than any other brand... but if you're expecting aftermarket plastics for a 690, forget about it. I'm sure you can't find that for your MT-07 either. Aftermarket plastics are a thing that really only exist for MX bikes (and maybe a DR/XR).

I'm not sure what you thought you were buying... but your criticisms make it seem like you accidentally bought the wrong motorcycle.

I almost bought a blue 890, because I think it looks beautiful especially the high mount exhaust. But I kept doing research and there were a significant amount of owners complaining about leaky head/block gaskets and marred up cam shafts, so I dodged that bullet, because even here in Minnesota, there aren't many dealers who work on those bikes. Also would be disgruntled if I had problems with a modern bike. I think you'll be happy with a Ducati SF V2 or a Hypermotard. I would think hard about that Triumph Rocket3, they are priced fairly but that's a heavy mf, I remember watching a British guy reviewing a Rocket3 and the turn radius is horrendous and he could not get out of a ditch making a u-turn trying to duck walk it, he's was also a giant guy and couldn't get the bike to move without having to turn it on and putting it in gear. Dealing with that Rocket3 in the garage is going to become a chore you loathe, it's like the reason why I sold my Yamaha Midnight Warrior, just don't want to feel like I'm moving a fridge everytime I go for a ride.

Get an old Dyna low rider and do a build series on it.
New bars and risers. New exhaust, new cams.
It would be great content.
