LEONCAVALLO “Mattinata”
Joseph Tancredi, tenor
Susan Nowicki, piano

Performed on Wednesday, October 23, 2019
Field Concert Hall, Curtis Institute of Music, Philadelphia

Join us next week as the Curtis Opera Theatre performs The Barber of Seville, Rossini’s effervescent comedy, overflowing with farcical twists and sparkling arias. The barber of Seville does it all—whether a shave, a scheme, or a secret wedding. Figaro dreams up daring plans to unite the beautiful Rosina with a nobleman in disguise. Their budding romance infuriates the couple’s adversaries, who are no match for the ever-resourceful barber.

Some of Curtis’s newest additions to the voice department will be highlighted in this production. In anticipation of this opera, please enjoy this performance from the October recital where the new voice students were introduced.

Very nice -- great range! Saw this vocal artist perform in Albert Herring last year and really enjoyed it. Regarding complaints about movement on stage -- some opera lovers actually appreciate an artist's ability to be both physically and vocally expressive. I'd much prefer to see someone with a bit of acting ability who embodies the emotion of what they're singing, as opposed to someone who stands there like a statue. Haters gonna hate, especially when they're hiding behind "handles" that aren't their real names. Keep doing what you're doing!
