The Zoom H6 is a self-contained recorder, but you can also use it as a USB microphone and an audio interface. The XY stereo condenser mic capsule will be used for this video.

The MXL 2008 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone with a frequency response of 30Hz-20KHz. It is an XLR microphone, and requires phantom power.

We will test these microphones on voice for applications such as podcasts, voice-over, YouTube videos, etc...

You will hear several samples from different distances. There are raw samples and processed samples. The processed samples use iZotope Nectar 2.

Which of these microphones sound better to you? Comment below 👇

The zoom is a much more refined microphone and has much more dynamic range.. and a more refined quality sound with less plosives then the MXR. It's not a fair comparison.. it would have been better to use a serious mic to compare such as an Audix Scx-one or even an akg 414.. which makes me wonder which you failed to mention was the microphone that you needed to increase the volume on? Considering the MXR is not a quality refined mic overall it did pretty good but as I said it would have been much more interesting to hear the zoom up against a much higher quality Mic. As a sound engineer the MXR Mic isn't something that would even be considered as a serious contender and would never be used in any professional applications... whereas the zoom is often used for studio applications with excellent results. Thanks for your time and for posting this video.

The zoom sounded better from a foot away, but the diaphram mic sounded better at 6 inches away, and then zoom was better at 2 inches.

Hi! Great video! Could you please tell me how is Zoom H4n pro latency as an audio interface? Is there any latency when you plug in other mics in it to use it as an audio interface? I major in Piano performance in college, and I was looking to buy a mic for recording piano and possibly some bass playing. Sadly I’m not experienced at all in audio recording. I was wondering if I could just use other more higher end XLR mics in the future THROUGH Zoom H4n pro without having to buy another stand alone audio interface. Thank you very much!

Obvi the Mxl sounds better, but I will definitely use the xy for conversational narratives to create a sense of space.

Is the zoom H6 fitting for recording music vocals? It sounds good here, but in your opinion would you sing into the mic?
