Objectively, there is no reason to bury your colonist in a sarcophagus. It has no mechanical advantage over a grave for the rest of your colonists, and it's a precious waste of time and marble at a time when you are desperate to rebuild. But to you, he is more than just a scrap of code in a video game. He is the researcher who cracked the secret of the battery just in time to save your stale meat from rotting before the long winter. He's the medic who stayed up all night without food without so much as a complaint, saving half the hamlet from bleeding out. He's the miner who recovered precious components from the ancient rock when the old generator broke down. And he died a hero, protecting his fiance and his friends, holding the line against pirate scum storming the barricades. And you will honour him. Because that's what this amazing game does to you.

My best builder "gramps" was kidnapped and my plans were set back. Genuinely sad after losing him as he was my highest skilled builder and the last of my original 3 colonists. An In game year passes, ships built, I wait a few months more, just to see if I can get the mission to save him. Nothing. I presume he's dead and launch, I sit through the credits, hear this beautiful piece, and hit return to colony just to get one last look at it. Not even a second after loading in, get a Mission to rescue gramps. This game is something else.

I wish I could unhear this so I could experience it again after beating the game.

The feels you get when you look back at your base after the credits, its like a picture book, you see the very first storage room, the first freezer, the first bedrooms, and everything expanding outwards. One thing id think would be way more conclusive is that, after the ship launches, the game simulates in hyper speed, showing the death of the animals and the eventual degradation of the base by erosion and scavengers, like, seeing your hard work standing the test of time, withering away along with your memories of it as this song plays, i would cry

I once had a colony where everyone died except for one pacifist who only lived by desperately repairing the walls. He lived alone for years before we built the colony got built back up, and eventually he was a member of a thriving colony. 12 years later, after four years in darkness and hundreds of raids, he was shot and killed by a drop pod centipede. We built a sarcophagus into the walls he built when he was alone, and started building the ship. Just as we were going to build the last few cryptosleep caskets, every single member of my colony died to a swarm of lancers from a psychic ship, except for one doctor. He went back home, turned on the reactor, and waited in a cryptosleep casket for it to warm up. Since the ship was built behind my base, most of the raiders were content just to steal my art, furniture made of precious materials, and electronics. With the massive dip in wealth from having everyone die and losing almost the whole base, only one mechanoid raid happened, which he had to stop with just his assault rifle. He shot the scyther a single tile before it caught him and took a shot to the arm from the lancer, but killed it and put a bandage on it, not using medicine because of the pirates stealing it all already. On the last day before the reactor would be ready, there was a siege. There was only eight hours left on the reactor as they started destroying the remains of my base with two mortars. Tony left that planet as bombs fell around him, and this song played. That was the most amazing playthrough I ever had, of any game I have ever played.

So there's a reason to build the starship after all. Huh.

Gotta leave it all behind
Engines burn and blow ya mind
Waiting waiting for the sun
How many seasons pass you by
Are you glad just to be alive
Waiting waiting for the sun
Waiting waiting for the sun

Through ice and fire wind and rain
Remember left and forget the pain
Waiting waiting for the sun
To hold the line and hear the call
Make friends come and enemies fall
Waiting waiting for the sun
Waiting waiting for the sun
Waiting waiting for the sun
Waiting waiting for the sun
Waiting waiting for the sun
Waiting waiting for the sun

If this song has never made you cry, you either haven't lived long enough, or you never turned the difficulty up high enough.

I was pretty emotional leaving my first colony behind. I may've cried if I didn't make some cryptosleep caskets for all my pets.

So after restarting my colony every few years getting bored. I decided to finally complete the story and get to the credits. And after the gruesome 15 days of raids, just before I was going to let every colonist enter their caskets, they started partying. Oh boy was I not read to cry some manly tears

What an amazing song to accompany the credits after finishing the game. "How many seasons passed you by" this line gave me some tingles reminiscing how many quadrums my colonists went through. Such a rollercoaster of emotions all embodied perfectly with this song. Thankyou Alistair

Been playing since 2018. 1700+ hours in game. Never finished one until last night. Had to come find the song to listen again. What a phenomenal piece of music at the perfect time in the game.

The greatest colonist I ever had was a tough brawler. I gave him quite literally every enhancement possible, and forged him legendary prestige cataphract armor, and got him a persona zeushammer. He was so good he would heal fully in the middle of a battle. He ended up saving the colony after a mechanic raid of 23 centipedes stormed the walls, and he bought time for everyone to drop pod away. He took out ten centipedes before his armor broke. We were able to recover what was left of his body and give him a proper burial. I never had a hero like that again
