A very sweet nostalgic car!!!! The 77 and the 78 are a gem of a design. The 79 is similar but they altered the taillight design from the previous two years. This ‘78 is just awesome!!!!

This was the first car I bought after I joined the Air Force. I was stationed at Hickam AFB, HI and bought a 78 T-Bird with only 40K miles...this was in 1988. I absolutely LOVED that car. Unfortunately, I had to sell it when I got reassigned. I still dream about that car.

I love how this T'bird has all the exterior gingerbread (except the vinyl roof) and a basic standard interior. Cool that it has no power windows/door locks, too! Kind of makes it unique. Plus the red/red looks really good together.

I just bought an original low mileage 33, 900 mile 1981 Mercury Cougar XR7 that still had it's original whitewall tires. I replaced them immediately when the car was delivered. The ride was horrible and the tires were also dry rotted. As nice as it is just keeping the original tires for show, I wasn't going to take the chances as I kept harking back to my friend who had an original low mileage 1978 Ford LTD Elite with the original tires and when we went out for a spin for the day, the rear right tire exploded or ripped apart on the freeway and damaged the wheel well. That is what I DON'T want to happen. So that is why I changed them. I was fearing the same might happen to mine.

The new whitewalls look great on my car and the ride is what it should be. Sometimes, you have to compromise to make sure you are safe and to enjoy the vehicle and preserve it better.

You probably don’t realize it, but every time you shift it into gear, you slam it into gear. Need to go easy on those older cars.

Did you sell this to someone in Vancouver? I think I'm looking at the same car right now.

Nice looking car but why are you braking with your left foot?
