Look at Gary Richrath in the video and you will see a true rock and roll guitar legend. Lots of people think Cronin is the sound of this band because of the vocals...and he does have a unique voice for sure...you can pretty much always tell an REO song when you hear the vocals...but for me, the real sound of this band is Gary's screaming Les Paul. He added the guts to a lot of these hit songs that would have sounded like Barry Manilow songs if not for the "edge" that Gary's guitar provided. I think he was underrated. He is never mentioned in the same breath with guys like Page or Townsend or Hendrix or Schon...etc...but his sound was the basis for this entire band. No messing around with Richrath and his technique either. Pretty straight forward: Take a Les Paul, attach a long coiled up cable...none of this wireless shit for Gary...you needed to physically "plug in", then plug it directly into the lead channel on a big ol Marshall head and amp. No pedals, No fancy effects, just turn up the volume and turn on the overdrive and go to town. RIP.

No gimmicks..laser show..fireworks etc etc.
Just 5 guys who plugged in and rocked...and sold out arenas worldwide.
That's what real musicians do.

Gary's blasting your face off from the opening song. Stage presence like his is a valuable thing.

Awesome band. The songs they wrote are timeless, unlike the crap that is on the charts now. REO, Styx, and Foreigner should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

His voice is just so amazing!!!! You couldn't fake it back then! And not just the singer. Everyone! This may be the greatest band of all time! I'm blown away! I was born way too late!

But maybe, just maybe, if I work really hard, I can make music like this and bring it to the young people. 😊

Wow...THIS IS pure gold for me seeing THIS footage. In MY OWN backyard no less. Kemper Arena KANSAS CITY MISSOURI !!! I was just a 9-10 year old little snot during THIS period, already legs DEEP in R n R music (thx to my 13 year older sister Lol.) as I was discovering the more heavier stuff comin out at the time (Ozzy, Crue, Ratt etc.) but STILL a HUGE REO fan for SURE! The latter 70s to early/mid 80s REO WILL ALWAYS BE some of the BEST Rock n Roll music of it's time. THIS

That rendition of “Riding the Storm Out”…the pyros…rock and roll can’t get any better than that.

Back in the mid 80's it was groups like Styx, Journey, Heart, REO, Foreigner, and Even Survivor that were owning it. Also throw in ZZ Top and Triumph.

So awesome to get to see this video again. Wish REO would release it on DVD and Blu Ray.
