My mother-in-law is literally the gardener who tends her neighbors' gardens. She has many siblings and is always providing for the others' families, and she was the caretaker of my wife's grandparents for many years. This makes me think of something I use to call "saviour syndrome", where people would constantly sacrifice themselves to help others to the point of burning out. Then they get angry and bitter when people fail to show appreciation for them, even though at times they didn't ask for it (not to that extent). Allot of them would end up bitter and resentful when they didn't get the appreciation they expected to get.
