#OracleF1 #Oracle19cExadata #Exadata
This tutorial is for beginners as well as for experienced such as DBA’s who are just starting to learn Exadata and covers some of the very basic questions like What is Exadata, its Architecture, how to prepare the things before migrating database to the Engineered system (Exadata)
What is Exadata?
Oracle Exadata Database Machine is a combined Compute(DB server) and Storage(Cell) system optimized for running Oracle Database Software.
Exadata Component Structures:
LIBCELL: LIBCELL, which is a library that is linked with the Oracle kernel. LIBCELL has the code that knows how to request data via iDB protocal.
CELLSRVCell Services: (cellsrv) is the primary software that runs on the storage cells. It is a multi-threaded program that services I/O requests from a database server.
Management Server(MS):MS is a Java program that provides the interface between cellsrv and the Cell Command Line Interface (cellcli) utility. MS also provides the interface between cellsrv and the Grid Control Exadata plug-in.
Restart Server(RS):RS is actually a set of processes that is responsible for monitoring the other processes and restarting them if necessary.
Input/Output Resource Manager(IORM): IORM manages I/O at the storage cell by organizing incoming I/O requests into queues according the database name, category, or consumer group that initiated the request. It then services these queues according to the priority defined for them in the resource plan.
Infiniband Switches: InfiniBand switches and cables to form a 40 Gb/second InfiniBand fabric for database server to Exadata Storage Server communication, and RAC internode communication.
The files are located in the /etc/oracle/cell/network-config directory of the database server host. These configuration files contain IP addresses, not host names.
Example:
Quarter RAC Exadata machine contains 2 compute(DB) nodes and 3 Cell(Storage) servers. Below picture shows the IP configurations.
192.168.56.101 and 192.168.56.102 belongs to Compute Nodes.
192.168.58.201, 192.168.58.202 and 192.168.58.203 belongs to Cell Servers.
Exadata Overview & Architecture:
About Exadata:
Exadata is a database appliance designed by Oracle that has the competency to provide support to a combination of database systems such as OLTP (On-line Transaction Processing) and OLAP (Online Analytical Processing), the transactional and analytical database systems respectively. Exadata offers its users an enhanced functionality relating to enterprise-class databases and their associated workloads.
Why Exadata?
The Oracle Exadata Database Machine is the World’s most secure database machine. It is engineered to be the top-performing and best available platform for running the Oracle Database. This simple and fast to implement machine protects and powers your most important database and is the perfect foundation for a consolidated database cloud
When To Use Exadata?
Oracle Exadata is best for customers who consider data warehousing and consolidation of the database. Enterprises targeting faster growth and striving to become more responsive to market fluctuations and client requirements must implement pioneering technologies like Oracle Exadata.
Components of Exadata Storage Server:
Exadata Server is another storage device, which has CPU, Memory, Disks, Network Cards(NIC), an Operating System Oracle Linux and Most important past Exadata Storage Server Software. There are mainly three services which run on cell server for the processing which are:
CellSRV (Cell Service): This is the primary component of Exadata Cell which provides all Exadata Storage services. This process communicates with the Database server for providing database blocks
MS (Management Server): MS service provides an interface to DBA for communicating or Managing Cell Server. CellCLI is the Command Line tool that Exadata DBA used for performing Exadata Administration services.
RS (Restart Server): This service is to make sure the functioning of the Exadata Server. RS monitors CellSRV and MS for liveliness and restarts them whenever required.
Please follow my blog for the rest of exadata information.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!
