Basic Fall Streamer Tactics for Trout

Streamers are a great way to catch trout during the Fall time as hatches start to wind down. When fishing streamers though you need to focus on slower, deeper water and also slow your presentation down.

In this video I talk about some basic streamer techniques for fishing Fall trout water. In the first segment I discuss some tips for swinging streamers through a run and second segment I show you some basic stripping techniques through slow pools.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask them below or any comments.

Thanks for watching!

Will try these out this weekend...seems like I have a hard time getting the fly down to the bottom of those holes...and adding split shot above the fly makes me tangle up more...its definitely a learning process. Have fished bass ponds for 30 years so, small streams and rivers for trout are very different

Norcal Mike - sorry but it won't let me reply directly to your comment. Hope you get this! What I mean by leading the fly into the bank is to position the rod tip ahead of the line / fly so you are in a way pulling (or directing the fly) into the bank you are wading along so the fly ends of downstream of your position.

"lead the fly into the bank."  What does he mean by "lead"?  Use the rod tip and water current to position the fly near the opposite bank?  Thanks.

Great video, I am new to streamer fishing but really enjoy it. I have a few questions. When streamer fishing with a floating line in small to medium streams, would a sink tip be better, or would it be too heavy? Some polls get deeper in spots especially on rainy days when the river is high, but still most areas are 2-4 ft and maybe 4 to 5 in pools. Also, when the streamer has swung its way to the bank, is it still beneficial to strip the streamer back up stream to you before casing it out again? The other day I did that and a rainbow surfaced and then refused it at the last minute and wondered if that stripping up stream was a turn off.
