Only The Beatles and Mariah dominated the Hot 100 in such a way! I love '90s music! Great video!!

the fact that Mariah Carey was in every year except for 1997 and 1999 is hysterical

Black or white suffered from being released at the end of 1991 so its sales have been split into 2 years.

It's funny how the US charts were dominated by rnb while European charts were dominated by dance music. Also by 1997 you can see a change with Pop music dominating big time.

People like to say "the '90s musically began with Nirvana", that really isn't true. You still saw a lot of 1980s trends like uptempo Techno-Dance House Music or Glam Rock Balladry still clogging up the charts in 1991 and the 1st half of 1992.

The '90s musically didn't begin until Whitney Houston "I Will Always Love You" or around the 4th Quarter of 1992.

The definite signifier of the '90s was 'Freak Me' by Silk; a raunchy mid tempo R&B song peaking at no.1 for multiple weeks in the Spring of 1993 was surprising. A track like Freak Me would've never hit no.1 on the Pop Chart 18 months prior because it wouldn't have received enough Radio Adds to chart that high.

1998 was the end of the '90s, 1999 musically isn't really the '90s in terms of Pop trends. So many brand new music acts came out that year Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Nsync, BSB's peak, Destiny's Child.

Those music acts are Y2K Music (1999-2002), most of them rose to prominence in the tail end of 1998- early 1999 or the year 2000 and generally saw a notable decline in popularity after 2002. They were high peak-short longevity music acts.

Top 25 pop songs in 1992, same year as I was born. Wonder whose number one? Edit: I love being a boy band fangirl because it was "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men.

I grew up with 90s music but I was into country for the majority of the decade. For me, "I Swear" and "I Can Love You Like That" will always be hits for John Michael Montgomery, "Nobody Knows" will always be one for the late, great Kevin Sharp, and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" will be one for Mark Chesnutt.

So many boring ballads. I love the 90's music for its amazing Rock, Alternative, Dance/Trance/House, Pop, World music but this American charts doesn't show it at all. Did Americans really like all those boring trash in the 90's?

I don't like these Billboard charts, too tied to the tastes of Americans.
If I look at the 25 best-selling singles in Italy in 1990 we find: (except for the songs sung in Italian)
In brackets the highest position in the standings:
3. Another day in Paradise - Phil Collins (Max 2)
5. Vogue - Madonna (1)
6. I can't stand it - Twenty 4 Seven feat. Captain Hollywood (2)
7. I've been thinking about you - Londonbeat (1)
8. Nothing compares 2 U - Sinead O'Connor (1)
9. I'm your baby tonight - Whitney Houston (1)
14. Praying for time - George Michael (3)
15. Justify my love - Madonna (3)
16. To be number one - Giorgio Moroder Project (2)
17. Enjoy the silence - Depeche Mode (5)
18. The Power - Snap (4)
19. Everybody everybody - Black Box (7)
21. Violence of summer (Love's taking over) - Duran Duran (4)
22. Ultimo imperio - Atahualpa (2)
24. The Great song of indifference - Bob Geldof (8)
25. All around the world - Lisa Stansfield (3)
...
97. Hold on - Wilson Phillips (23)

However not a great year 1990.

Only Coolio finished the year at number 1 both in the USA and in Italy. (although with us in 1996)
