Royals and veterans in Normandy for the 80th anniversary of D-Day

King Charles has praised the 'bravery and sacrifice' of the tens of thousands of Allied troops who landed by air and sea on the beaches of northern France 80 years ago.

The number of people who lived through World War 2 is getting smaller and smaller every year. We should never forget the bravery shown, those who sacrificed their lives for a free Europe, a free UK. Beautiful humans whose lives and stories should be cherished and heard. ❤

The D-Day landings were a magnificent feat of human bravery. Members of my family were there.
But, let’s be honest. If it was not for the Russians battling through on the Eastern Front the German forces located there would have been located in Northern France and the outcome of the Allies attack would have been different.
This isn’t taking anything away from the bravery of our troops, but to commemorate D-Day with absolutely no reference to the bravery of Russians and their 26 million lives lost is quite distorted.
