I’ve always been impressed by Myogiryu’s “cool” demeanor. To me he is one of several memorable fighters. Kudos to Myogiryu and best wishes for his future as a coach.

Thanks for another great video Chris. Miyogiryu was a warrior. Sometimes he went under the radar, but that was a heck of a run he put together over all those years.

Myogiryu has been my favourite ever since Kotoshogiku retired, love his style and his dedication. Also, he's got the best gait of all rikishi, most elegant! I'm glad that he stays in the world of sumo, he'll make for a great coach, I'm sure.

Gratitude to what I also like to call the "Sumo Athlete", Myogiryu; for all the emotions & memories he gave us in Sumo.
His contribution to the Sumo world will be remembered, I will miss him!

i watched myogiryu throughout his whole career. He was always good, but i would never thought he is this level of athlete. You couldnt really tell it by both his physique and sumo style. Anyways, keeping high level for so many years in a tremendous achievement

He will have a great advantage of understanding diet, nutrition and maintenance well as a coach.

Not sure why but I always figured, if I had to pick a wrestler to fight for my life, it would be him.

That's the secret, drinking cool drinks so fat doesn't harden in my body.

A month's worth of protein shakes in four days is diabolical work

2:00 Strength is only part of sports you can actually increase with age, up to a point, as far as I know.

When it comes to weights it is same for me. I am 39, I am still progressing up with weights, lifting heavier and heavier so I am far stronger than I was in my 20s and I haven't reached my maximal potential I had to add an extra minute to my rests between sets, I cannot do squats and dead-lifts on same day and expect to do well on whatever I was doing second and I have to warm-up extra well before bench press to not re-injure my right shoulder or to not inflame my elbows. And if I don't sleep at least 7 hours I might as well not go to the gym at all. In my early 20s when I was made out of rubber and magic I could do all 3 big lifts on same day without any prep basically any day even after a night out. My advice to younger guys it push hard NOW (but do it safely please, no ego lifts and do not ruin your joints a.k.a pay attention to your form).

Wait, Myogiryu is aware of armwrestling? And even somewhat refers to John Brzenk, the goat of armwrestling. He is known to only do some band work, but 99% of this work-outs were just table time and is at the age of 60 STILL active. Based.

Before i could remember his name i called him the Brad Pitt of sumo. I thought i heard on nhk that he claimed to have the lowest body fat of any other wrestler.
