Do you prefer planning your sets in advance, or do you trust your instincts and go full on freestyle?

This is some valuable information that took me years to figure out by myself and that people don't really talk about. Golden stuff here, take notes.

I'm a DJ now for 15 years and host DJ course but I still get inspired by your videos every time. There's a lot of valuable information in them and I've even referenced your videos to my students.
I think the only thing that would add even more value, would be to use more examples and maybe even go through a small 10 minutes set with your techniques. Have you ever considered doing a patreon where you go a little bit more in depth?
Thanks for your work.
Much love and gunfingers from Austria ❤

I have only one playlist with tracks I like in various genres and just go with the flow based mainly on key, works like magic almost every time

Killer video brother! I had to mock up a flow chart for myself based on your model here. Genius!

Mate.. well played.. these are things constantly hitting me.. stuck in a playlist, can't change quick enough, try to plan in advance.. but don't really know how it's going to work on the night.. the last set I did at a new bar.. . didn't want to go down cheesy bangers, but that's what worked.. and got stuck half way through .. because I had to back track to older gig playlists with more banger content, .. that I wasn't really happy with the suitablilty for that exact evening.. turned out all right in the end.. owner was happy.. but I knew I could have taken it to another level if I was prepared enough.. will go through this video again, and re-anylise your advice, carry on with the great work Chris 👌🏼

Fantastic video, I’ve been using this method for a while but it’s nice to see a visual representation of what to look out for when playing, colours w/ intelligent playlists are just a game changer as well cheers Chris

I have no clue what genre is your thing, but I'm sure it's not prog house lol. Great vid, I learnt to beatmatch on belt drives back in 92 and this is some solid advice. Subscribed

Only thing I'd add is that 'Groove reset' track can also be way outside the genre - a kind of quirky throwback, these can go add a highlight moment to sets.
But that colour and smart playlist feature is a game changing idea 🔥🔥

Im about to start adding colours purely because ive changed genre to Techno, and i find the energy is totally different to my usual Tech house (sorry chris). good vid here 👍

Love your videos and how you always find ways to diss on house music.

You can set the color much easier by double clicking on the color area in each song. It's a little finicky but you don't have to go into the info panel.

Awesome tips bro 🙏
My problem is the exact opposite though 😂 I usually loose interest in a making a playlist before it's finished...and even then I can't be happy playing a polished playlist more than once or twice so I always just wing tbh it using exactly the criteria you've described.
Tell you what though - colouring the could be a game changer for me. Out of 5000 odd DnB tunes for example it's not always easy to remember what the real energy of a track is - especially if you haven't played it for a long time.
I just need to put colours to what I already do🙏
