I think the point about fighting to defend your honor is key aspect of fights at schools in disadvantaged areas. In Baltimore I grew up with ladies how would carry Vaseline in their purses as all times in case they need to beat someone down.

While I have never seen someone collect rings from their home girls, I can totally understand how it could happen.

Oh, my gosh! Yes! The thing about a bunch of girls bringing rings to school was sooo real. I grew up in the ghetto part of San Diego. The extra thing that would happen at my school was that girls would remove the settings if their rings had stones so that way they could mark up the other girls face even more!
