Deltoid IM injection site anatomy

There are a lot of intramuscular injections occurring right now into the deltoid muscle around the world (future people: check the date) and it was recommended that I take a look at the anatomy here and structures that might be at risk from damage by a needle to help out those people holding the needle.

The deltoid muscle is a safe site for intramuscular injections, so let's get a good visual sense of what's nearby.

Great video for teaching nurses about shoulder anatomy to prevent SIRVA. I will be using this in my clinical teaching. Could you do a similar video on gluteal injections? I watched the gluteal muscle video from 2018 but something focused on structures relevant to injection safety would be fantastic. I am always looking for visual ways to explain to nurses why the ventrogluteal site is now recommended over dorsogluteal for large volume IM injections as well as how to landmark the ventrogluteal site.
