Yup, it's a gear and a machete on the Angolan flag, not a hammer and sickle. The gear represents industrial workers and production, while the machete represents peasantry, agricultural production and the armed struggle. It's based on the flag of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), one of several groups which fought Portuguese colonial rule. It emerged as the ruling party of Angola following the Angolan Civil War. The flag was designed by Henrique Onambwé. Regarding the Libyan flag, it definitely would've been easier if it was the Gaddafi-era flag, because the Gaddafi-era flag was just green....and nothing else.

The bird on the Zimbabwe flag is the Zimbabwe Bird which was a carved soapstone bird that was found at the ruins of Great Zimbabwe. Great Zimbabwe was built by the ancestors of the Shona, starting in the 11th century and inhabited for over 300 years. The soapstone bird sculptures are about 40 centimeters (16 inches) tall and stand on columns more than 90 cm (3 feet) tall. The carved bird is a depiction of the African fish eagle which is Zimbabwe's national bird. On the flag, the bird symbolizes the history of Zimbabwe. Green represents the agriculture and rural areas of Zimbabwe. Yellow stands for the wealth of minerals in the country, predominantly gold.

The reason yellow takes up most of the Colombian flag is because it is derived from the design of the first and second Gran Colombia flags. On the third Gran Colombia flag between 1821 and 1830, the stripes are even, but on the first flag between 1819 and 1820 and the second flag between 1820 and 1821, yellow takes up much of the flag. And just like Colombia's flag, on the flag of Ecuador, yellow takes up much of their flag too! The Gran Colombia flag in turn was based off the flag of the First Republic of Venezuela (between 1811 and 1812) designed by Francisco de Miranda. Francisco's reasoning for mostly yellow is through the iris of an eye, yellow is the warmest, noblest, and closest to white.

And the Mexican flag depicts an eagle perching on a cactus while feasting on a snake is because it refers to the founding of Tenochtitlan, what is today Mexico City. The Aztecs were told by Huitzilopochtli, their sun and war god, to look for an eagle perching on a cactus while feasting on a snake. They saw this at Lake Texcoco and thus, they built their city on Lake Texcoco, the Spanish conquered it and built Mexico City over Tenochtitlan, and that's why Mexico City is where it is today!
