For those who think that just because it is creative and people in real game are different I have a suggestion.

A little over a year ago I played like a chapter 1 player. I wanted to come back to the game and didn't know how to beat good players. When you get good mechanics, stop focusing on your builds

It's the number 1 mistake I've seen people do, focus on the enemy because eventually building should become second nature

Get good mechanics, work on reaction time, and just play alot of ranked solos. If your nervous to play solos then play duos and do your absolute best to try and carry every game you play with a friend. Try to get good at winning 1v2s by making alot of space with your builds. And try to understand why you lost a fight. If you get mad that you died come back to it once your refreshed and look at the mistakes you made that costed you that fight.

And this stuff takes time, don't give up the important stuff in your life to be good at fortnite. You only get 1 life and unless you have too much time on your hands you probably won't become a pro. games are meant to be fun, don't ruin your whole day because of a few bad games.
