put the couch in the middle of the room, next to the kitchen counter not against the wall. Make it the focal point that anchors the room and has easy accessibility (easy access to the fridge too), it feels more lively, intimate, inviting, and doesn’t create dead space. If you have guests over it centers the conversation + you can see your guests from upstairs. It also creates a situation where people in the kitchen can talk behind your back, but you can easily turn around and lean on the kitchen counter to face them. If the couch is extraordinarily big make sure there’s enough space to still comfortably pass by its side.
Placing the couch against the wall would be more standard and boring. Anyways get a rug and table. but that would block the mirror, wouldn’t it? so idk
