Firebending, one of the four elemental bending arts, is the pyrokinetic ability to control fire. It is unique among the bending arts, as it is the only one in which the performer can generate the element. Firebending is known for its intense and aggressive attacking style and general lack of adequate defensive moves, although firebenders can modify offensive maneuvers to function as a defense, such as creating large walls of fire or shooting down incoming attacks with fire jabs.

I just realized firebenders probably got rid of air nomads not only because of the avatar cycle, but also because of all the elements it's the only one that could consistently counter fire by just blowing it back at them. If you block with water, it becomes steam and would still give firebenders a split second chance to strike the opening. And earth could be worn down. Both elements rely on a already existing source. I don't know, just something I realized.

There's another hability, that i think could be incredibly powerful if used at full potential; in the flashback of sozin and roku against the volcano, sozin manages to take literal heat of the lava and throw it away, cooling it and making it turn into rock again, interestingly using a pose very similar to iroh's lighting redirection technique.
If what he did was really taking the thermal energy of something and taking it away, it technically could be use to freeze people or killing them by hipothermia by taking all the "heat" in them.
Please correct me if i'm wrong cuz i've been thinking about it for a long time, and i don't know if going deeper on research or just leave it away xD
