How to Find the Traders in Valheim

I get asked how to find Valheim's traders pretty often - so I thought I would make a quick beginner friendly guide laying out the mechanics behind how you can find them. There are now 3 traders in the game: Haldor, Hildir and the Bog Witch - all of which are very accessible in the early-game and will allow you to purchase lots of useful items and crafting materials that you won't be able to find elsewhere (e.g. the fishing rod, Megingjord strength belt, potion ingredients, feast herbs, fire pit!). One thing I've noticed about Hildr is that she seems to spawn on a small bit of Meadows that is also close and connected to Plains. The Mistlands seemed to really push the Plains in toward the center of the map, so it seems to be easier to find the meadows mixing with the Plains closer to Spawn.

Hildr loves to spawn just a bit next to plains for some reason. Not that its a bad thing as those are best places for main base as it covers most of food items you need in game.

One trick to find haldor early in game is using troll armor set + 1.st boss buff and just run araund the coast of black forest as its much faster than sailing.

Bog witch seems to like spawning in area where is not that many iron dungeons. Generaly near surfling spawns.

We recently spent a couple of hours venturing through the swamps to find the witch but no luck yet. At this stage the biggest challenge is to find swamps that we haven't explored yet in that area but it's good to know that sailing past them should be enough.

In my first playthrough, I didn’t find Haldor until I was ready to fight Yagluth, cuz both of their locations were close to the Ashlands. When the full Ashlands update came out, it messed up all the terrain in that area, making Haldor temporarily inaccessible. I still haven’t gone back to fix it, lol.

Great visualization of data. I'd split the world into 3 segments, not 4 though.
Also worth mentioning that discover radius for traders is about 160–225m, not 300m. Why a range? Because world is generated in square blocks rather than circles.
For comparison, territory discover radius is 32m, which means swaths of discovered area is 64m wide.
Still it's the first good visualization of traders spawn I see here on YouTube.

My cousin and me call it a pocket portal. We each carry our own just in case we need to head back home or we separate.
