A praying mantis appeared at the nest of the Japanese honeybees (Apis cerana japonica). The mantis swiftly captured a bee. In response, the bees fought back, trying to rescue their captured companion. However, the mantis fiercely waved its arms, knocking off the bees that came to help.

I noticed something incredible : you can see a Honeybee get stuck behind the wire. It climbs up a bit and another bee helps it crawl out the hole! It happens quick, but watch again ! 🐝

I think this is a male green morph Narrow Winged Mantis (Tenodera angustipennis); if so, he will have an orange area under his thorax between the bases of his forelimb coxae. He looks rather too slender to be a Japanese Giant Mantis (Tenodera aridifolia), which has a pale yellow area instead of orange between the forelimb coxae, more heavily pigmented hindwings as an adult, larger average size, and very different looking oothecae.

He may have taken a sting in his right forelimb; mantises often shake away prey in this fashion if they are bitten or stung. If this happened, he would probably lose the use of that forelimb afterwards.
