Leo Parente and ShakeDown follow-up on Chris Harris and Mike Spinelli's /DRIVE videos about the McLaren P1 [at the Paris Auto Show] and the Porsche 962C [at Porsche's Weissach Test Track]. Because the 2 cars tell the same story about how racecar aerodynamics and ground effects make for better cars.

I love the way the p1 looks, how can it not be said that its a thing of beauty. The way the airflows around the vehicle is as if it has been sculpted by it.

Leo Parente - IS THE MAN - I cannot believe how informative and interesting that was, 12 minutes of pure talking and I loved every second of it! Thank you!

As a mechanical engineer and auto enthusiast, I am extremely delighted that Drive and Leo made this program. The mainstream auto journalist often neglect the fact that pure engineering makes the car not the badge on the hood. Thank you Drive for being willing to step into some science to explain these fantastic machines.
Cheers from CA

The P1 is so inspirational! Makes me want to hit the shed and start building a race car

First, great episode Leo.
Second, this sort of form following function creates its own unique automotive aesthetic that is actually quite beautiful. The P1 has an incrediably organic and fluid design that indulges the eyes much like an abstract painting.
I love it and it looks like a proper evolution of the F1.

Whoever does music for drive is awesome. I like the the technology, I like to know that someone is doing their job correctly and squeezing every bit of power out of a vehicle while being able to keep it on the road.

You explained the engineering aspects incredibly well as a "lay person." I'm impressed as ever Leo.

I think the most amazing part of this video is Leo did it all in one take!

It's great to know I can count on Leo for any type of car schtuff that i didn't know before and somehow make it interesting. Love the P1 from McLaren, they just win hands down for sexiest most functional road car.

Leo, at first I hated the P1, after the beautiful F1 road car. But the more I learn about the engineering behind the visuals, the more I appreciate it, and the more beautiful it becomes to me. Thanks for the video.

OMG,
I was really flashed for these 10 minutes!!
Because of the P1's beauty and it's technique, and because of the way it was explained to me.
Great car,
Great Video!

The P1 is an stunning looking car that also has function, I believe this link between the 2 (the function creates beauty or vice versa) is what makes it a special car. Also Leo, this was an amazingly entertaining and educational video.

This has been the best Shakedown to date!

and to answer your question Ian... Form follows function in my book but not by much.

I think the P1 is spectacular. That fact that the form actually is the fiction makes it even better. It looks like they drove the bare chassis through a wall of paint at high speed, and whatever stuck stayed. It's one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen.

I actually love the form follows function look of the P1. I think it is a beautifully shaped car. I am also a big F1 fan and am very excited that some of the F1 tech is making its way into this hyper car. Great breakdown of the aero in the video.

I love the idea of the racing connection with the street. Non-spec racing improves the breed but the aerodynamics for the street must be focused into make the cars more efficient and planted to the road.
