You know you have a vintage portable radio if it comes with a leather protective jacket. My mom used to have a cool, square Hitachi AM radio that ran off a 9V battery, but the radio (and its leather case) have been discarded many decades ago. 😕

Love the dial on the GE especially. I believe this was the last of the " discrete transistor" radios made by GE after that they switched to an all-in-one IC like they used in the superradio 1 and 2. Im not sure if they used a 40 ohm speaker in that but wouldnt be surprised. Sometimes the earphone jack gets dirty contacts it might work with an earphone.
