Your way of describing a solution for the first question will fail many test takers because it is not based on a specific and articulable logic. A better way (assuming the question is created using rules of logic) is to first look at the sums already offered for the red and orange equations. You can eliminate C and D. Next, an addend can not generally be the answer in the equation to be solved. This eliminates B. Therefore, we may assume the answer is A. Also why would anyone want to subject themselves to such a culturally biased series of tests that do not really measure that much?
