We explain the difference between Registered and Unregistered Memory

This will be common knowledge for some of you but we have recently seen the occasional person getting confused between RDIMM and UDIMM.

"You may have heard about “registered” memory, sometimes called “buffered” memory, but how is this different from regular memory and what is it used for?
Registered memory modules, also known as RDIMM, have a register on the module’s PCB
This means that memory commands are sent from the system’s memory controller to the module’s register before going to the memory module
The main benefit of this configuration is that this reduces the electrical load on the system’s memory controller because it doesn’t have to access the memory modules directly and has to deal with fewer target locations
This reduced strain on the memory controller means that the system can support more memory modules while remaining stable, as there are fewer target locations for the controller to access"

Please comment with any technical jargon you would like us to explain next

I will repeat what other people have said. After spending 45 min on internet trying to find out, this video just explained it in under 3 minutes. Bravo

Nice video! Would you be able to make a video about ARM processors and it's topology?

You mentioned Unregistered memory taking more eletrical load, cpu cycle etc. What is a good number to start using registered. E.g. If i dont plan to exceed 256GB of ram, would it be alright to stick to unregistered? Any kind of graph or benchmark?

Hey there at Sever Factory Ltd, can you please make a video about (Intel SHA Extensions CPU's).
Basically what is, the usages and what types of application would require this function for better performance and so on.
