Why DreamWorks' Trolls 3 Was Always Gonna Happen...

What a surprise! DreamWorks are making another Trolls movie. The first one wasn't great, the 2nd one forgot all about the first one, and now this third seems to have forgotten Trolls 2 too! Off the height of two of their latest movies being MASTERPIECES in their own right, now DreamWorks has gone back to their mid-2010s route of shallow repetitive content for kids to consume with nary a thought in their head. But judging by the unwarranted success of the last two Trolls movies, this was probably guaranteed to happen in the first place. Here are my jerk reaction thoughts to the Trolls 3 trailer. And Why DreamWorks' Trolls 3 Was Always Gonna Happen...

DreamWorks is wasiting no time mmaking Poppy even more insufferable and infuriating. She once again, completely steamrolls over Branch's feelings and trauma, invalidates it and forces everyone around her to adapt to HER vision. Like...really he's got every reason to dislike his brothers or be reluctant to get back together with them, but she just ignores it and puts him in the wrong bc 'they're his family'. This is such a toxic relationship...

What I don’t get is why he had to interrupt the wedding of people he’s never met to introduce himself as branch’s brother 💀

i always wondered what even happened with the grandma, trolls 3 doesnt even fit the backstory they gave us in the 1st movie

I don't know about y'all but the trailer made it so obvious that Branch's brother is probably a twist villain appearing out of DreamWorks's ass.

Gru: has a secret brother in the 3rd film

Branch: also has a secret brother in the 3rd film

I think it looks decent. The long-lost brother plot is a cliche plot, but it looks like it can be a fun time. Also, I know some people will say "How did DreamWorks go from Puss in Boots to this?", but in my opinion, not every DreamWorks film needs to be on the same quality as that and The Bad Guys, and that's totally fine.

Sometimes people just need that. They need a simple plot. Cheesy. And colorful. *shrugs* It is what it is.

People say DreamWorks enter a golden age, but forgot DreamWorks is one of the most inconsistent animation studios out there. Before Puss in Boots 2, the last DreamWorks movie I enjoyed was HTTYD2 in 2014 (8 year gap).
Disney and Pixar might make some average movies nowadays compared to their past era, but they make more great movies at a more consistent rate than DreamWorks. They don't make bad movies on purpose for babies, whereas DreamWorks make something like Boss Baby 1 and 2 (2 was slightly better than 1, but still garbage).
Let's hope KFP4 will be enjoyable. I hope they do Spider-Verse animation again.

Saying nothing of the fact that they are teasing a DONKEY SPINOFF, I swear one side of Dreamworks is trying to bring them back to glory, while the other is actively trying to plummet them to illumination levels.

I thought the first movie trailer looked stupid with "whip and nae nae" but I saw it and fell in love with it. These movies are definitely guilty pleasures for me and this one I'm looking forward to. It's just got everything I love

Imagine this thing ends up being another masterpiece for no reason

Well, the DreamWorks Renaissance couldn't last forever, but hopefully, it's just taking a break and not just limited to last year. I won't watch the movie, but I'm definitely looking forward to Dazz ripping it apart.

He has NEVER mentioned any family except his grandma, I thought she raised him on her own before her death but apparently not. Though it seems to me that she may have been the only family member who truly cared for him, if they bring that up then this may be interesting but my hopes are not high.

I want to learn more about how singing killed Branch’s grandma, okay?

I think "Baby Branch" is just supposed to be his stage name. I'd buy that his brothers would wanna market him that way. Isn't one of The Spice Girls called Baby Spice despite obviously not being an actual baby?

As someone who is obsessed with this franchise, both the movies and the TV shows, I can say... I'm nervous about how good this will be.

Though, in interviews, they did say this movie will be mainly addressing toxic positivity and family relations, which I've seen many people in the comments talk about.
So... maybe Poppy being dismissive, overbearing, and ignoring Branch's trauma 'because they're family' will be addressed. That makes me hopeful.
At least the people working on it know that toxic positivity exists.

(But they've also said they want to make around *8 movies* for Trolls... and my first thought was the Alpha and Omega franchise. Which scares me lmao.
I do NOT want to watch the adventures of Broppy's kids.)

Anways, about this movie:
Of course the animation is amazing, the fabric world style is unique and fun, the animation is bouncy and expressive, the textures are wonderful!
I noticed this movie seems a lot more pastel and less saturated than the other movies? Branch seems like he's back to his grey colors and Poppy's pink isn't as vibrant? I personally prefer the brighter colors but it isn't a big deal. Still visually good.

Plot-wise,
Trolls is just a silly little fun franchise, big serious plots aren't their thing. So a long-lost brother(s) plot isn't ruining any canon and isn't jumping any shark.
This is a show where everything is solved with the power of friendship and dancing, alright? It isn't going to be the deepest most serious thing in the world.
Since I watch these to shut off my brain and enjoy being goofy for an hour, I can put up with a stupid plot in the name of fun.

It's a jukebox musical of course, feel about it how you will. I personally love them and the puns. Trolls just wanna have fun!

Now... where it starts to look iffy.
After World Tour, this one might be underwhelming. World Tour really opened up the world building and set up a LOT. It'll be hard to come after such a big movie. Dreamworks tends to make BANGER sequels then fall off a little...
Hopefully it won't be as hard of a fall off as between Shrek 2 and 3.
I also worry that World Tour characters won't be returning, or if they do it's just for 1 or 2 scenes.
My favorite is Barb so I really want to see more of her but I just don't see it happening.
That isn't a deal breaker, tho...

What IS, however...
Is whatever they're doing with Branch and Poppy.
It's heavily implied they'll be married by the end of the movie, so I worry a good chunk of the movie will be a B plot of Branch trying to propose.
_Like in Frozen 2._
I, personally, cannot withstand such cringe again. Since here it will be much more prevalent than in Frozen 2 and it's between Branch and Poppy- Poppy, as before, doing toxic positivity and dismissing Branch's concerns. Which will be painful to watch happen repeatedly.

Or, they *DON'T* do the proposal B plot and just continue with the will-they-wont-they they've been doing forever, infuriating both shippers and non.
Since they want 8 movies they will most likely drag it out for quite a while until they need new easy plots.

The broppy stuff is particularly painful to watch for me since I just see them as best friends/having a sibling dynamic, just wishing that for once a main male/female friendship didn't have to turn into something romantic. But, ya know... of course.

So like... overall it could be a fun movie, but after the last one it might be underwhelming, then the shipping plot and will-they-wont-they might make it hard/frustrating to sit through.

If I had a nickle for everytime the 3rd movie of an animated series had the plot of a grumpy character and his bubbly girlfriend meeting the grumpy characters long lost secret brother, I'd have 2 nickles, which isn't a lot but weird that it's happened twice.

I'm gonna be serious here, I quite enjoyed the Trolls movies. Of course they aren't the best but if I don't really have nothing else to do I'll watch it with no problem to pass time. I think that even bad movies can be enjoyed if you feel like enjoying them
