Today we take the ASUS Maximus III Formula P55 motherboard for a quick spin. I'm really impressed by the look and features of this board, but the price you pay for it is quite high.

Review:

Now that is one nice looking motherboard. The color scheme is awesome, and cool to include a soundcard! I rate this a low 3/5

What am I doing, and why?

I want to watch, and review every single video on Linus Tech Tips channel.
I will provide chapters, if the video has none.
Why am I doing it? To pay a homage, and I am pretty sure that my head is a bit messed up.

because you can use a 4 pin connector instead of a native 8 pin connector. They cover the 4 optional ports so that customers will not try to force a 4 pin in the other side.

Definately my next motherboard. Will fit well with HAF 932 case from CM

Looks cool! Whats the purpose of covering 4 of the 8 pins on the 8 pins mobo connector though?

Christ! There are some crazy accessories that Asus includes! Those Sata stickers is a excellent idea. Whoever is on their marketing team/product stuff they have been coming out with great ideas lately...

you didn't do any research for the RoG connect...

the white usb connecter you showed connects the board to a laptop which opens up the ASUS bios... very interesting feature imo

@MegaBris you are saying thats its an old motherboard its 2 years old it released 2009-09-08 but for the specs and things this one have lets just say dont judge it by its age

I love how you 'launch' everything but the board out of the box :)

@Significanto
usually the first pci slot is x16 ... actually usually both are x16 but they go down to x8 as soon as sli is on so it doesnt matter which one u put it in.. although id recomend first one.
as for ram ... usaually the first one is the best then the third. but in this case id go color coded... red being brightest id put it in the secon then the fourth. so put it in the red slots.

Yeah, Videocards these days don't have enough bandwidth needs to even stretch the 8x lanes.

no, usb 3 have been released at 2010 i think, 1156 socket is old and expensive than 1155 socket

@Limitbreak07 no it runs in only 8x/8x but it is no big deal because it is enough for sli, if you want 16x/16x sli buy an x58 1366 mobo and a 1500 $ core i7 :D

I love how that thing didn't have any kind of RGB.

it only supports 8x in CS/SLI this is a limit to all 1156 based mobos as the PCI-E controller for graphics is based on the CPU!

Ive a very bad experience with the Striker II formula.. ive had two of them and both had the ''CPU INIT'' error..

after looking for some Maximus III formula info on google.. this board seems very good!
