Series 7's Phil Wang returns to the house, thankfully not in costume, to relive his TM high, lows and injustives in his Ultimate Episode.

------------

------------

In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.

Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

I was heartbroken when I heard Acaster's remark that Phil feels robbed when he thinks of Taskmaster. He did get shafted by Greg many times but he was still REALLY funny. And I'd say a key part of the golden season

My favorite Phil moment was the 10 word story in the oral tradition. He had the best story by far.

Let's all take a moment to appreciate Phil. He brought a unique type of comedy to the season, paired well with strong personalities, and entertained the whole way through. Season 7 wouldn't be the best without him.

I love how he ran with a joke that was literally only funny to the live studio audience, just to cap it off in the finale with a joke that's only funny on TV.

These "My Ultimate Episode" videos are freaking sweet, hopefully we'll get more

He's right. He was done hardly by. I think the best example is when he brought in a piano key and Greg just steadfastly refused to believe that he had done. And it was such a clever take on the task.

Phil always struck me as the kind of guy I’d want to hang out with. He’s just the right mix of relatable, awkward, yet endearing. I also believe he was done dirty in the show though he did shoot himself in the foot on many occasions

I loved Phil in his series and laughed at his haggle joke every episode.

One of the Taskmaster greats!
Favourite moment: "I playED the trumpet... in that clip"
Biggest injustice: The portrait of Greg he made with random objects was SO GOOD

Despite Series 7 being one of the best, the thing that still grates me (and I'm glad Phil mentions it at the end of this) is the BLATANT favouritism towards Rhod and unjustified and unwarranted low-scores given to Phil. After initial shock, Phil ended up taking it and not fighting back.
Ooo, and when James Acaster points out the favouritism, things started to get a little fairer... And it was so needed. Thank you James and good on you, Phil!

Dear people not in Britain. If you have a vpn, there’s a YouTube outtake only available in Britain, which is “sausage or finger extended”. It’s so much better than the version in the Final Cut.

I love that Phil walked around his home and found his prizes. I love the prizes that do at least appear to have come from home, and/or have taken some effort from the contestant, like Steve Pemberton.

Phil is the perfect guest for this series. I think this is way more interesting than Lou or even Kiell. Seeing someone who did well talk about doing well is fun, but seeing someone whose performance was, let's be honest, somewhat catastrophic from a scoring perspective talk about their best tasks feels special.

The unfairness of how Phil was scored in the series lingers on in my memory - and it seems, so it does in Phil's as well.

Episode 6 - He obtained fifty actually different items. I think he should have gotten the full 5 points, not some consolation bonus point for effort.
