Recorded at the dress rehearsal in San Sebastián on May 8 2024 this is a “compilation” of the second movement which consists of this lovely slow melody and a seemingly simple “fast” part which is actually rather awkward to play (cellists who played it might agree), as we have the rhythmical pulse of the flute to listen to while dealing with our line constantly “spiced up” with little accents and crescendos - I just can’t repeat it enough, I find this concerto much harder than it looks, while the Elgar concerto is much easier than it sounds and looks - maybe one of the reasons the Lalo has disappeared for a while from regular concert schedules, possibly replaced by the Elgar? Maybe time for a revival?

Great!
Wow, not seen that much that thumb position action the in fast section since D. Shafrin...Makes sense though, much less shifting! I've always loved this concerto, though a pity the orch. accomp. is so thick it can overpower the solo cello lines. One has to work a LOT harder in this work.
