ITS DONE ITS DONE THE CURSE IS LIFTED THE LARKSTAR PMV IS DONEEEEEEEE
I started this video way back in late 2022, and I'm so happy that it's finally finished and that I can share it with you all!!

While working on this video back in early 2023, I got hit with some pretty intense creative burnout. For MONTHS, I couldn't even look at this project without feeling an overwhelming sense of dread, even when I thought to myself that I wanted to work on it. I was worried for a while that I would never be able to feel passion for this project again, that I would never pick it back up, and that it would remain half-finished forever. I had to give myself the time and space to distance myself from the project and let myself rest. And then, towards the end of March, I was finally, FINALLY able to begin working on it again! It has been so rewarding to return to the work I thought would never see the light of day again, to breathe new life into it, and to finally finish it! I very much hope you all enjoy it!!

Story:
This PMV tells the story of a part of Micaclan's past, shown from the point of view of the young warrior Larksong, who would one day grow to be the clan leader.
The clan faces hard times, but Larksong gives her all to support her clanmates in whatever way she can. Her sense of responsibility drives her to not only serve those who cannot care for themselves, but to also help her former mentor Ospreyclaw as they guide their new apprentice Foxpaw in the ways that honorable warriors act.
When an even greater tragedy strikes, their home destroyed and death abounding, Larksong looks at her broken clan and promises herself that she will hold them together, and keep her remaining family strong, in whatever way she can.

Larkstar has been just sort of Existing in the background of the Mudpaw videos, so it's really fun to get to show you guys just what her life was like in the past. This is far from the only tragedy that ever struck her and the clan, but it was, I think, the most formative. This event and the months following it end up informing her worldview and beliefs and shaping who she becomes.

OH ALSO If you're wondering why the environments in this video are so different from the environments in the videos that take place in Mudpaw's time, the clan has to abandon their ancestral home, since the floodwaters destroyed it. They travel for many months, and eventually find their way up the mountain that Micaclan lives on in the current day, where they establish a new territory!

I love the use of situational irony prevalent in Micaclan’s partial destruction. They spent months staving off drought, rationing water through leaves and moss so everyone would have water to drink. Then, just when they think their plight is over and the rains return, the rains don’t stop until everything they know and love is swept away in the torrent. Seems like only Starclan could fashion a fate as cruelly ironic as this one. Can’t wait for more lore to drop!

I do like how the flood happens after a drought. It's accurate because the ground becomes hard and stony from the drought and when the rain falls it doesn't absorb the water well so it just builds up.

HOLY HELL… you’re just seriously one of the best visual storytellers in this community. Not only is this concept and all the stress and emotion that comes with it so perfect, but every story beat hits ridiculously well. The simple color schemes and corresponding tone change were amazingly effective.
The irony of the clan being ruined by the very thing they were desperate for… AGHH!!!

The irony of Larkstar fighting to bring enough water back to her clan, only to have lost everything to a flood, then the only way to reach her ancestors and lost family is by cave diving. And losing a life to said cave diving

As someone who lives in a desert area, rain is both a blessing and a curse. It’s great to finally experience it and to watch the plants spring to life, but it brings flash floods, landslides, and lightning that loves to strike down right next to people.
With that out of the way, this PMV was gorgeous! I love the colors used throughout, each one bringing its own sort of emotion. It’s amazing to see what the clan was like before Mudpaw’s time, even if it’s just a snippet.

okay i need to stres this again but I LOVE how you use colour to portray how the characters see the world. Mudpaw thinking the world is mostly dull portrayed by the monochrome scheme of his animatics. Possum seeing the world bright until losing his mate and son, here the colours become slightly duller. Larkstar seeing the world the way it is, dark and wet when dark and wet, hot and dry when hot and dry.
