Salaries are not that great, given the competition involved. I think the main attraction are the following:
1) Job security
2) Power
3) Corruption

It would be nice to see a video comparing salaries of faculty working in reputed educational institutions ( like in IITs/ central or state univ/ ) with salaries of IAS officers, their PERKs, powers/ pressures/ freedom/ independence, retirement age etc., for an youngster to think of a profession that is better suited to his/ her mind set
