Breaking New Ground - Abbington Perimeter in Decatur

The Housing Tax Credit Program is an initiative whereby DCA provides an opportunity to apply for funds to use in the construction of new rental properties. As such, developers can receive a significant tax credit for devoting all or part of their living spaces to low-to-moderate income individuals and families. For quite some time, there has existed a stigma surrounding public housing and areas labeled "low-income." That's something we want to change.

Working in tandem with the development of an extensive report that demonstrates to lawmakers exactly where and how tax dollars are being spent, we are producing videos illustrating for the public how this program touches the lives of Georgians at home.

The video above is part of what we're calling Breaking New Ground. This campaign will feature stories from the people supported by this program most personally, filmed on location, in their homes, at the properties receiving these tax credits.

Abbington Perimeter is a gated community located in Decatur. Our interviewees spoke highly of the accessibility of the facilities and the ease of access to their homes. One resident, featured in this video, invited us into her home to see how she made the unit her own. You can see her personal style and custom decorations above.

With equal measure, there was a consistent mention of the safety the residents felt coming and going. The sense of security was something that both surprised and endeared them to the property and those around them.
