CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Danielle (Drew Barrymore) finds a creative way to protect Prince Henry (Dougray Scott) from gypsies.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Andy Tennant directed this Cinderella variant. The Brothers Grimm arrive at the home of a wealthy Grande Dame (Jeanne Moreau) who speaks of the many legends surrounding the fable of the cinder girl before telling the "true" story of her ancestor. In flashback, the story then focuses on eight-year-old Danielle, daughter of a wealthy widower, a 16th-century landowner. After returning to France with his new wife Rodmilla (Anjelica Huston) and her two daughters, he dies of a heart attack. Ten years later, Danielle (Drew Barrymore) is now treated as a servant by the trio. Fortunately, she has an encounter with Prince Henry (Dougray Scott), who is fleeing an arranged marriage. Later, when Danielle poses as a Lady, the Prince takes an interest in her. Inventor-artist Leonardo da Vinci (Patrick Godfrey), accepting the French court's patronage, offers advice to Prince Henry on matters of the heart. George Fenton's music adds an accompaniment to the lush look of this period romance.

I love how Henry's just like, "well, okay then" and totally not pride-pinched at all about it, 'cause hey, it worked!

My favorite seen of the movie. I just love the gypsy leaders reaction. He was so impressed by her wit and the brazen balls she had that he couldn't even be mad. He straight up was like, "Damn. Shes good. She got me. Damn."

The look on the gypsy's face when he realised she's outwitted him and he misjudged her strength

I just love the fact that by carrying Henry, Danielle earned respect from the gypsy leader in that way. He was impressed by her fearlessness and independence.

You know everytime there is a remake of another princess movie I am always holding my breath just hoping someone would make something like this for beauty and the beast, snow white, etc. This is absolutely the best version of Cinderella I have ever seen

The leader is just so impressed that a tiny woman was able to lift a grown man. It's awesome.

A strong, legit, female character, that's completely believable. They don't know how to write stories like this anymore.

This scene was inspired by true events. In the year 1140, King Conrad besieged the city of Weinsberg and eventually forced its surrender. However, the women of the city negotiated as part of the surrender the right to take away with them whatever they could carry on their shoulders. Leaving all else aside, each woman took her own husband on her shoulders and carried him out. Though his men protested that this was not what had been meant, the King accepted the women's clever trick, saying that a King should keep his word.

I just noticed this. One of the men said "Can I have a turn?" Right before the leader said he'd give her a horse.

God it's so great knowing the reference for this entire scene, because it's even more hilarious.
TLDR: Warlord invades town, says the women can leave with whatever they can carry, all grab their husbands and walk right outta there.

This scene was priceless. They had no idea what kind of girl they were dealing with

I don't know why, but the little "byee!" wave that Henry gives at 1:56 cracks me up every time

I love how Danielle bows her head to the gypsy leader after she picks up Henry. As if to say “it was nice meeting you, excuse me” lol

I remember when this movie came out in '98. I had just started dating a new girl, and for some strange reason we chose a movie about Cinderella as our second date. It was such a pleasant surprise, and even now, in my 50s, I watch clips of it often. I still love it. I never found my Cinderella, but there's still time. Wahi' Valleys
