Nortel Switch Quiet Fan Mod

Switch: Nortel 4526GTX-PWR
Stock Fans: 4x T&T 4028M12B-PF1 12V
New Fans: 4x Noctua NF-A4x10 FLX 12V
Airflow: Stock 12.19 \ New 4.83 (CFM)

Pretty simple mod just remember to swap around the black and red wires if you use the Noctua fans.
The switch can barely be heard after the mod and seems to function well without getting overly warm. Any 40mm 12V fan should work but the Noctua fans are a personal favourite.

I bought noctua fans and they didn't work in my switch. Saw the wires were in a different order. Your video confirmed i needed to swap them. Thank you.

but it has a much lower CFM too, monitor the temperature, as you may have a cooling deficiency. A normal fan has an average of 15CFM, the Noctua has 5.5CFM

Old video but I’d you telnet to the switch you can get the temps with ‘show environment’ on the command line.

Greetings! I was inspired by your video to change the fans of my avaya ers3500. They work perfectly! The only issue is a little less performance (4 degrees difference) and the mounting not being completely right. Should be also noticed, that swapping black and red cable didn't work for me, i had to set em "Black - Yellow - Red" in order to work.

hey i does the same with my switch a couple of month ago but i replaced the fans with "Cooltek Silent Fan 4020" they got a good airflow and are realy cheap .. i can still hear the fans but just at midnight and when everthing is turned off.

you can also put a resistor into the cable of the original fan but the fan still isn't quite.

We are having a lot of network problems. I've noticed that the fans of the switch never turns. That does not look like something good to me. What do you think of it?
