Visit Masouleh with Destination Iran

Masouleh is a hillside village as old as 700 years and located at the forests of Gilan province mountains, North Iran. The houses of this village are spread on one side of the valley. The roof of each house is partly the pathway and partly the courtyard of the upper house.

Masouleh houses get a lot of sunshine and have their doors and windows made of wood. These houses have got several windows overlooking the other side of the valley. They also have a fantastic view of the natural landscape ahead of them. At the bottom of the valley, along the river, there’s a road that brings lots of visitors to this village. There are also a few houses on the other side of the valley as well.

The graveyard of Masouleh is on the opposite side of the village, again on the hillside. If any families or groups of people go there, everyone in the village will notice and find out what’s going on.

This is the river flowing down the valley. It’s a source of water for many and sometimes creates flood pushing down dangerous huge rocks.

As a traveler, when you get there to visit Masouleh, the first thing that catches your attention is the beauty of the valley and the way houses are laid on the hillside with cream-color façade and wooden window panes.

The people of Masouleh decorate their houses with pots of Geranium flowers in front of their windows. It actually gives a beautiful image to their houses. You will soon notice that this is the color they like and use in their handicrafts too.

Woven fabrics are the main handicrafts of women at Masouleh. The products can be found at the village stores and sidewalks where local people try to sell their crafts to make a living.

Women usually sit on the roof of their houses in sunny days and weave different types of handicrafts. It could be little colorful dolls, shawls, socks, and other garments. Iranians and foreign travelers buy from them. Visit Masouleh and you’ll experience a lot of culture, see local crafts, taste nice food and enjoy the scenery.
