OSC Summer Programs - Connecting Like-Minded Students

Показать описание
Jean Weasler, an alumnus of both OSC's Young Women Summer Institute (YWSI) and Summer Institute (SI), discusses the impact and opportunities that the programs have had on her personal career.
Young Women's Summer Institute (YWSI) is a weeklong program for middle-school girls in Ohio. It is designed to promote computer, math, and science skills as well as provide hands-on experiences. YWSI helps girls develop an interest in these subjects by allowing them to work on a practical, interesting scientific problem using the latest computer technology.
Working in four project teams, OSC Summer Institute (SI) students solved practical, yet complex, science and engineering problems. In the process, they developed and applied fundamental computing skills in areas such as programming languages and techniques, operating systems and visualization. Summer Institute participants also learn how to work with each other in various team-building activities.
