I always thought it was like "don't mind it" rather than "I don't mind it", which isn't it actually pretty close to english meaning?

Well, I’d say most people would understand; in this context it’s very easy to see that it’s being said like, “don’t mind it, it’ll be fine” or just “don’t worry” but I’m sure at least a few people out there have had this misconception 😅

I think most English speakers would immediately understand the intended meaning. It's not used in the same way, but the meaning is the same.

Where I live in the USA, "Don't mind" or "Never mind" means leave me alone or mind your own business. If you want to cheer someone up than try don't worry.
